1 problem!

Everything has went just fine in my sw tank but I have an intense build-up of brown algea. Does anyone know how I can keep this away? I have to clean it away at least every other day. Thanks.

it might be brown algae or diatom algae. they pop up because of high phosphates and silicates. i'd use some phosguard by seacem. it removes phosphates and silicates really well. if its just on the sand, i'd get some sandsifter starfish.

The brown algae is common in newer systems. is yours new?

Turbo snails will eat it up... quick.

it will also go away on its own as the tank matures.

How about some phytoplankton, that seemed to work for me, I'm growing green algae where the brown went away now though.

Can someone please explain to me how a UV filter or phytoplankton are going to help deal with brown algae that isn't floating about? If it's diatoms wait a week or two till they've exhausted available silicon, then it'll disappear. What are you using for water changes/top up's?

Phyoplankton helps because it will cut off the food source for the diatoms, as for UV filters I haven't a clue.
