Wow, thanks for all the help. Do you need aeration with reef aquariums? In the literature I've been reading, I haven't come across any mentions of it.

I have a 29 gallon freshwater with basically nothing in it, I could use that to start a reef.

no, no airiation. otherwise you would get bubbles caught in your rock which would trap nitrates and when they popped.......say by to your 10 gallon reef.

yes you could use your 29. you would need an emperer 280 biowheel.

i dont think you will find a small enough skimmer that is worth anything.

If you have LR (at least 29 lbs) and a deep sand bed(4 - 6") in your tank, these 2 items will be your biofilter. As for skimmers, I would suggest the aqua C remora or the cpr bak pak for a 29 gal. tank. Let us know if you plan on running a sump with this tank since that will increase your skimmer choices.

the way to do it would be to just keep typing until you are done and then hit the submit reply button...i doubt you are trying to icnrease your post # as there really is no point...number of posts is by no means an indicator of knowledge as particular people <ahem> remind us on a nearly daily basis
