Hello, I have a 100 gallon tall fish tank with the bottom busted out of it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if i got half inch thick plexi-glass for it if it would hold the pressure. The reasoning for this is that the tank was originally built with half inch thick glass, and that is very expensive. Anyone with some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Although I cannot directly answer your question, glass and plexi are not the same strenght, so .5" glass does not = .5" plexi. Plexi in .5" thickness is not going to be cheap either. Perhaps a more cost effective solution would be plain plastic of a non-clear type that could be put into place. It's only the bottom anyway, why does it need to be clear? Sorry for not being able to directly answer the question.

That sounds like risky business to me. I think it would be false economy to attempt to repair it rather than buy a new one. Who knows about the stress placed on other parts of the tank due to the missing bottom etc. It'd be horrible to stock it up and have everything lost and a huge mess just trying to save a few bucks.

I'm sure there is a reason it was built with thick, expensive glass. 800 pounds of water alone needs some good quality support... and 100 gallons of water looks really big on a floor.
