1000 Gal. tank? ...Uhm.. that's a pretty big tank. You'd need like, a store-sized space to even accomodate it. Where you just wondering, or are you seriously considering? If you were to make a stand so that it wasn't just sitting on the glass/acrylic, you'd prolly have to make it out of concrete and rebar, so it'd be in one area permenately, hence the weight. (1 gal. of water = 8lbs. 1000 gal * 8lbs/gal = 8,000lbs. 8,000lbs. / 2,000lbs. = 4 tons.) That's an unbelievably huge tank.

i think you'd need a few pond filters and if your doing saltwater you'll be needing a super powerful powerhead and if your doing plants you'd need a few metal hailide lights and if you dosed in the same ratio as i do you would throw one 200mL of Seachem Flourish in there every other day and i get those at $10 each :) but thats why they sell in bulk :D

Yeah, I just talked to the guy that built it..... he said there's hardly any maintanence since it's so big.....He said the only thing frustrating is the ph and sg cause it takes so much to adjust it just a little. He swims with his species..... haha

You considering doing something like this? Thatd be crazy you could go snorkling any time ya want :), maybe even charge people to go scuba diving without leaving the neighborhood

i laywas though about if when I buy a house, if it had a pool I cold like put a buliding around it, like just completly build a total reef/shark tank from the exsiting pool. It we be a interesting project and not as difficult as building a stand and such for a above ground tank. and youd have your own like building for you fish that you could completly deck out with the fish tank stuff. Just need a high HIGH paying job hah, that or the lttery ;)

when i worked for a company that maintained large home and office tanks, this is the standard equip used for huge tanks:
Lifeguard aquarim filter system: four chemical filters, four mechanical filters, four UV filters. plus polyfilters, purigen, rowaphos, etc in the sump. a couple of heaters in the sump too. then you'd need two large protein skimmers and a calcium reactor. it's best to plumb the sump with an auto-top off running to your R/O unit (to whatever you're holding your water..) so as water evaporates, fresh water is added.

yea heating that thing would be a challenge, but people have heated pools right?;)

Thatd be cool to be able to come home and not only go for a swim but throw on a snorkle and and go to the Caribeean (sp), or you could put a shark in there and live dangerously.

a Pool?? , like I said..... imagine trying to adjust the PH or the SG....???

You would need LOTS of Buffer, haha, and LOTS of salt just to increase it one point.... Imagine algie.... LOTS of crabs, snail, shrimp, ect.... jeeze, the live rock/sand alone would cost you thousands!

Unless you stole the coral, you couldn't afford to stock your swimming pool with it....
