10g swap/renovation ...

Alright i have a nice looking 10g acrylic tank that has been running for quiet some time. Its the 10g tank with all the zebra danios in my signature. Anyways it has blue gravel and a ugf, this was set up when i knew nothing so i want to redo the tank. I want to take out the ugf and get more natural looking gravel.

So my question is this.

I have a empty 10g glass tank for back up reasons or whatever, so can i pull out the fish then put the water,gravel,ugf, and penguiun mini filter on this tank and still expect the tank to be established? This is a very weird idea and maybe someone has tried it before(I doubt it).

Most of your bacteria that helps break down ammonia is in gravel, and on your biowheel. You may go through a mini cycle by changing tanks, but I think you should be ok.

I did this with my 10gal when i wanted to convert to a planted tank so i changed my normal gravel with flourite. The way i did it was pretty much the same. I used a extra tank and filled it with flourite and then put all my water , fish , filter media from my other 10gal into this new one and i had no problems!

i did it and it worked out mostly fine, i had one fish die the night that i transfered them though.
