So I'm cycling a 12 gallon nano cube DX. Ok, I have about 1 inch of aragonite crushed coral sand in the bottom, and only the sponges in the back for filtration. I know I need to replace the pump with a stronger one and probably add either a hydor flow diffuser or a rio 50 to add extra movement. This comes with the dual compact lights, so lighting is good. Temp is 80, and the ammonia is already drastically dropping along with the nitrites and only after the second day!(I have a gift for rapidly starting tanks within 2-7 days, but usually reserve that for special occassions or friends tanks,). Theres no live rock or anything in there at the moment.

I know a lot of people hate nano cubes, but mine has been fine,(fixed the bugs myself when it was fresh!). Any suggestions on how to go about breaking it in for saltwater would be appreciated.

Also, anyone know if scissor tail gobies can live in a 12 g. nano for a short time? I plan on having a 30 gal. built by end of year, and that would be their permanent home. This tank will eventually be relegated to a sick/isolation tank at that point anyway.

Sounds good so far...i would get about 15lbs of live rock in the tank...whats the salinity?

Everything else sounds good...and a few scissorstails can live in there.

OK, new update:

NO MORE COPPER!! Did a 100% water change, filtered the water with an extra fluval 2 plus with special inserts for a couple of weeks, and found out the substrate is where the smell was coming from, not the LR. So I threw it out. The old LR is in a bucket being detoxed from copper,(no more trace ammounts being found in water, but I'm cycling it in the bucket with filter/pura pads for another few months,). And the best news...

I have living coral in the nano cube, for the past week. It's doing great, I added a few small polyps from my lfs's frag tank to see what would happen, and it's doing great, along with a small piece of halimeda I placed in it today. Maybe Im finally on the right track.
