Hello I am new here. I have upgraded from a 55gal and 29H to a 125. I would love to know a great filter for my setup. I do not want to run additional bio wheels if I do not have to. I also would like to have an inline heater that works on a 125. Does anyone think they can help? I want to set this up after the first of the new year. Oh yeah I also want to know how many power jets I should use? PLEASE HELP.

First of all welcome to the tank.

For a filter, on that size tank I would go with a canister filter. There are a lot of different brands. I have a XP2 by Rena Filstar on my 75G tank. With a 127G tank I would go with 2 XP2's or an XP4. You can find them on Petsmart.com. I have seen the inline heaters but dont own any of them. They are really basic plumb them in the return line of a Canister fiter. The rule of thumb is 5 watts ger gallon on heaters. As far as powerheads, You can add them in area of low water flow. I have them in my 29G tank but it is used to diffuse CO2 for my plants.

What kind of fish are you wating to keep in the tank?

Feel free to ask more questions.

I have one XP3 on each side of my 135 gallon tank and a Hydor 300 ETH inline with one of them. Works flawlessly. I got all my stuff from bigalsonline.com but be advised that the XP3s don't come with any bio media.

Thanks for some input. I am really considering a Eheim 2128 Pro II with built in heater. Any suggestions on this. I also will run a powerhead on the other side of the tank to circulate the water. I was also considering instead of the powerhead split the outflow to both ends of my tank and the inflow in the center. How do these all sound.

I run 2 XP3s and 1 Magnum 350 with the micron just for water polishing on my 150G, soon to add another XP3....and I use an undersubstrate heater on this tank and it works wonderfully :D Never used an inline but heard great things about them :)
