I'm thinking of a tiny tide pool like 2.5 gallon nano tank. Is this feasible, and if so, whats the best way to execute my plans? I know how to maintain a 10 gal or larger tank, but am unsure of my technical prowess in the nano field.

well...you won't be able to keep fish in a 2.5 but it should be manageable:

get a little heater and a little powerhead and a chunk of live rock. do weekly water changes of around 1g at a time. keep an eye on the water paramaters

I would maybe try to do something invert focused, like a pair of sexy shrimp, or a boxer crab, or a mantis shrimp, really the possibilities are endless. with some easy low light corals. these tanks really are not hard if you have another large tank. they are a bit impractical if its your only tank, but also doable. I hade a half gallon nano with a mantis in it, but it would have been impossible if I hadnt had my other tanks.

I keep one hermit crab and an astrea snail. For some reason, my sexy shrimp die off after a couple molts, so I'm going to chill on the shrimp. Corals are green star polyps and zoanthids.

A mantis shrimp would be awesome. If I could find one where I could a guarantee it won't smash my glass and ruin my computer that's on the desk with the vase, I'd do it.

To echo Camaro, the weekly one gallon water changes are a must. It would be even better if you could do it two or three times a week. That would be only a couple plastic cups of water, very easy and fast. I use RO/DI water for top-offs and to keep things simple, I buy a gallon of premixed from the LFS every two weeks.

Here is the powerhead Iuse: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idProduct=AS1173

Definitely looks like one of those items you have to get, especially with a SW tank. I'm gonna try one out to put some extra movement in my nano, although I have a DIY spraybar and an aquaclear pumping... never hurts to make sure you've got some good current, provided I won't be ripping any coral apart :D My green star polyps will probably love it and get some more polyp extension with the increased movement.
