What are your thoughts on 2 male bettas sharing a tank with a divider? Right now, that is exactly what I have and they are in a 2.5 gallon tank. Both appear healthy and active and blow bubble nests and I've had them for almost a week. I noticed the other day that one of them had shredded fins and I'm afraid that he has fin rot. I took him out and put him in a 1 gallon tank by himself and other than not flaring and being lively because of another male around, he seems O.K. Their water has low ammonia lvls and I'm pretty confident that in general, the water quality is good. The temperature is also about 76F. I read that being constantly bullied by a tankmate can overly stress a betta, so I'm wondering if this is the reason for the shredded fins.

Would you advise on keeping these two completely separate or do you think I could put them together in the divided tank at some point in time again? They both look rather bored and listless by themselves, but I certainly don't want to stress them to death just so I can have the pleasure of watching them flare at each other. I am treating the one with damaged fins with aquarium salt and maracyn ii. Your input is appreciated!

It's wierd for me....I have 4 females and 1 male in a ten gallon.......
I cannot imagine a 2.5 gallon tank.

I've heard of people dividing a 10 gallon and having 5 seperate parts to it.

I just cant see it.

MO but thats how it goes.

I hope youre not offended..........

I have a female and male in a 5 gallon divided tank. I think that while bettas will be okay in small spaces, it is best for them to have places to hide and swim, etc. My first betta LOVED the 5 gallon all to himself. I would suggest giving each betta their own tank. I'm sure they would appreciate it! And if you want them to see each other, just keep the tanks close by.
