2 tanks, want to make one SW

I just recently got another 55g tank to go with my 56 tall tank. The 56 tall is 30x18x24 with T5HO lights. The new tank is standard 55 with normal florescent lighting, and has external canister filter. 56g has community type freshwater fish (stocked as listed in aquarium info) with a HOB filter. I'm interested in FOWLR to start, so I know I won't need the filter. Which setup would be more conducive to FOWLR, the long or the tall?

The long if you are going to have fish. This will give them room to swim.
