What kind of fish would be good for a FW 20 gallon Hex with heater and power filter. It would be nice to have one with some personality. Is there any Cichlids I could get?I know with a hex you can't have all types of fish.THANKS

What about a pair of Kribensis?  They've got some personality to them and they're fun to watch.  Angels are good too.  Depends on what you want.  Just make sure that you do plenty of research.  That's the key to getting good fish every time.

From our understanding, you can put a pair of males in a 20 gallon w/o trouble.  If anyone else knows differently, I hope they'll correct this.  I sorta got a pair in the hopes that they would breed, not really expecting them to.  I guess they breed easier than we thought.  But according to our research, a 20, especially if it's a 20 long, should be plenty of area.  If they're both put in at the same time, they can establish their own territories and all should be well.  You can always add some danios to keep the kribs from focusing on each other.

yeah, but kribs probably wouldn't do well in a 20 hex, which is narrow and high and won't provide male kirbs any room to establish territories.

Try a pair of dwarf blue rams. They are a cichlid, are very beautiful, and don't get very big. From what I understand, their breeding requirements are very specific, so they won't go breeding bonkers in your tank.

Personally, in a hex, I would nix the whole cichlid idea and simply go with a nice small school of colorful tetras. Hexes really are not appropriate shaped tanks for territorial fish.

Probably not. Blood Parrots grow to about 8 to 10 inches and need about five extra inches of territory. It might be the only thing you have in that tank if you do decide to do that. They are nice when in larger environs, but just like all cichlids, get snippy and nippy with tankmates in small ones.
