getting my 20 gallon tomorrow, tank, hood and lights for 25$. im going to put a pair of convicts in it and keep the 10 gallon going for the fry. im going to use an aquatech on the 20, not sure what size, it kinda fell into my lap  its small though, it was on a 20 or 29 when i found it. it doesnt have a water flow adjustment, and since it will be in with the convicts, i have to watch for fry. i was going to use some sponge on the intake, any special kind of sponge or can i just go grab some unscented sponge at the dollar general?

There was a post a while back where someone had used sponge from a supermarket in his tank, and all his fish had died. He said it was plain sponge, but it still happened.

You can also use old (clean) pantyhose attached with a rubber band to cover the intake. I usually get the powerhead prefilter sponges for putting over my intakes, but they're expensive for what they are (usually about $5-$10).

I think that you can buy the sponges that slide over the intake tubes pretty cheap. So next time you make an online order, just add a few with it to save on shipping.

I have several that came with some used canisters I bought a while back. Handy little suckers.

i just placed an order 2 days ago :( didnt think of it. i went to pet supplies plus today and all they had were natural sponges, and they were in the reptile section, i dont think thats what i was lookin for, they wanted 3.00's for a little larger than a golfball size peice. ill probably end up trying the pantyhose , i just didnt think thatd really slow the suction down that much, convict fry are usually pretty strong anyway.
