Alright guys so I finally set up my 29 gallon. It's got one large rock, one large piece of wood, two smaller logs for tunnels, and a few plants. It's not sparse, but not heavily decorated either. My goal was to create a aquarium with open areas for swimming. My list is:

9 Zebra Danios
2 Dwarf Flame Gouramis

Those are already in, my other ideas are

2 Dwarf Neon Gouramis
1 Small Angel
X small bottom feeders/dwellers

What do you guys think??

No to the extra gouramis, there's not enough space for aggression to be dispersed. I'd keep a close eye on the two you have already just in case they get aggressive with each other.

Also no to the "small" angel... no angel stays small, your tank simply isn't big enough for angels in my opinion.

As for the bottom feeders, I'd go with a shoal of cories personally. Have you seen any other fish you like to replace the extra gouramis and angel?

Corydora catfish are wonderful bottom feeders, especially if you can find pygmy corydoras. Pygmies are smaller than average cories and they look great buzzing around the bottom in a large school. Corydoras prefer sand and their barbels will become really short if the bottom is gravel, since corys filter the sand through their mouths in order to find food. My cory, who will soon be joined by a group of three buddies, did not look happy at all when I had gravel. The next week I changed to sand and he was so active. Do not add any plecos or large suckerfish as they can be hazardous to the other inhabitants in your tank, they create a lot of waste, and they will grow much too large for a small 30 gallon. I also would avoid otocinclus catfish as they need an established tank with a continous algae source.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of great smaller plecos that would do fine in a 29gal. I have a bristlenose pleco in my 29gal and she's doing great and doesn't bother anyone...except she likes to hang out with Grover, my SA bumblebee cat, and he gets annoyed with her sometimes. I'm curious as to the "they can be hazardous to the other inhabitants in your tank" statement...I'm assuming you're talking about Chinese algae eaters? If so, specify that, because I know of no other "algae eater" species (pleco or otherwise) that are aggressive toward their tankmates.

@ TMF89...+1 on what misterking said about the gouramis and angel. Two in a small tank like a 29gal is asking for trouble...adding more is guaranteeing it. And angels get to be 6" long and 10" tall, so yeah, they aren't "small" fish at all. Why not go with one gourami for a centerpiece fish, a schoal of tetras (Von Rios, cardinals) or harlequin rasbora, and a school of cories (one of the smaller varieties like peppereds, pandas, albinos or even pygmies)?

To give you an idea of a 29gal that is completely stocked, look in my signature at what's in my 29gal. It's a semi-aggressive community, so some of the fish in my stocking would work with your gourami (even though my tiger barbs are wusses that are afraid of everything).
