This is truly a sad day. I've had my tank running for over 6 months now and two of my very first batch of fishes past away. Another one a 4 inch bumblebee cichlid died early this morning. All I can think of is the water change. I changed the water as usual and the next day two fishes died. I ran tests for pH, ammonia, and nitrates and ALL were fine. Ammonia/nitrates were @ 0 and pH was around 7.4. What I did notice at first after the water change was complete, the top of the tank looked like it had a lot of bubbles, something similar to soapy water. When filling up my water jug, I added some chlorine remover, but ive successfully done this for my past 5 water changes. I normally keep water in jugs for 3-4 days and then do my water change.

I noticed the bumblee floating upside down before he completely stopped moving. My orange blotch was just laying on a rock before he/she died and the third I found when I got home yesterday. ALL three had their mouth open when I scooped them out of the water.

My other 5 fishes seem to be fine. They are all swimming around as they normally do and there's no way these 3 fishes died from stress. They were the king of the tank and they would only pick on one another. The remaining 5 fishes are smaller EXCEPT for the buttekoferi. HOWEVER, my buttekoferi was scared of the 3 deceased fishes since he/she normally stays on the left side of the tank. Now, he/she swims freely to the right side.

I am indeed sad this morning.

Sorry to hear about them :( If there was some type of poison in the water (soap etc) then you'd think all of the fish would have died.
How about a temperature change? Maybe those fish are more sensitive to something like that?

The soapy bubbles up top concerns me, but my other 5 fishes seem to be fine. But, whos to say when I go home tonight I'll find more dead. I've used the same water jug ever since i bought my tank. The only thing I can think of is that I've added too much chlorine remover. I use the one with the red label. The name escapes me at the moment. I poor a little of this solution into my water jug and then fill the jug up with tap water. Then I add the water into the tank. I do this about 6 times, which equals 6 gallons.

water temperature hovers between 78-82 degrees, but I just realize the temperature in the room has been around 85 degrees since the whether has been getting warmer as of late. I wonder what the temperature is inside the tank. I took the thermometer out and forgot to put it back in.
