A guy at work is getting a 35 gallon with wood stand, lights, filter, etc donated to him for his church auction and he asked if i'd be interested in buying it.

Of course I am so he said he'll bring it in for me to check out and in the meantime I should just let him know what I think a fair price is for it if I want it.

I don't want to take advantage of him but I would like a sweet deal. Any recommendations assuming it's in excellent condition?

well of course it depends on the type of filter, lights, etc.

and is it new from a lfs or used from one of those churchy people?

i personally would not buy it (they're only going to use your money to buy gold candlesticks!) unless you're sure everything is good in quality and condition. you don't want to go offering the guy a bunch of money for it if you're going to get stuck with a calcium-crusted penn-plax filter that had been run on untreated tap water and other creepy no-name stuff that could jeapordize the life of your fishies.

the stand alone, if well-made and new, is worth 50-80 bucks... so don't undercut him too bad ;)

LOL!

I bought a 20 L with light and 2 filters for 15 bucks from him this past summer so I'm sure he wouldn't try to sell me anything cruddy. He's not actually seen it himself yet so we'll see what the quality is like. Of course I'm under no obligation to buy it if I think it's unusable. :)

Thanks for ya'lls replies :)
