I just purchased a 38 gallon tank from my LFS for 38 bucks!! That's right a dollar a gallon brand spankin new!! I'm pretty excited to go a little bigger, I have purchased plexiglas and have begun making a hood for it, the hood will open on one side to allow access for feeding and cleaning and be easily removed as well, as for lighting I am unsure if I want to do LED or not I have the wiring knowledge to do so but LOWE'S has florescent fixtures that I can easily make a plexiglass stand to hold it away from the hood for 10 bucks, any opinions on that matter??? Well sorry for the novel I'm just pretty excited about this new purchase

Great deal. I have a 38 too. Not a huge tank but decent sized and wayyyy more fun than my 3 gallon ever was.

I run a Aqueon 30 on it for filtration and it works very well (even though my tank "overstocked" according some websites)

I bought the hood and stand as part of the deal - so you could buy a made to fit top - but I'm sure you'll save building it on your own.

Awesome deal Z dawg!

Now - what are you going to put in that puppy?

The stocking is the problem I love cichlids because of the color so an aggresive tank has been a thought but I have my fluval edge with a few guppies in it and a guorami, I was thinking of moving them to the 38 and using my fluval for a dwarf puffer or two, and of course get more for the 38, finding dps is hard though they seem to be tough to get ahold of

So I have built the stand for the tank with about 15 dollars in wood!! and stained it, sure looks nice, the tank is set up and cycling with the filter for it and the filter from my established fluval edge on there as well, the fish from my fluval, are in there to help the process move a little quicker, the question now is what do i stock it with, oh and dont worry pictures are coming tomorrow!

Call unclened's fish factory in Millis, MA

He ships. And if he can;t get it, no one can.

Uncle Ned's Fish Factory

You can ask for them on the forum section he has.

The place is an ugly steel warehouse kind of building but the dude gets in rare fish and tanks...oh man...tanks everywhere. But like I said...he ships too.

Thanks tal, I have read the dps like a 10 gallon tank and my fluval edge is only 6 galons, but I am a freak about keeping my tank clean I do 10% water changes 2 times a week cleaning the gravel and rocks, should I be ok to put 2 little guys in there?

Any puffer likes more space than less. But ONE DP (alone - no other tank mates) would be happy in your 6 gallon as long as you did 50% weekly water changes. They are very messy eaters.

No, you could possibly do it when they are very young but as they mature (which doesn't take long) aggression problems would probably start to arise. They are cute but deadly.

I have one in a 5 gallon and he is very happy. On most forums (puffer forums) I have haunted they say 5 gallons is the minimum a single DP can be kept in and then you need to add an extra 3 gallons per additional puffer. Plus when you have multiple DP's you need lots of plants (real or fake) so prevent aggression.
