Can a 30 gallon tank stand hold a 38 or 45 gallon aquarium?
I am deciding on most likely between the 30 and 38, I just wanted to make sure it could hold it
The 30 gallon stand its kinda old though..
it seems like its real wood. The wood on the sides is about 2 cm thick, and the top and bottom is "2x4" wood
I don't know why its called 2x4, the dimensions aren't 2x4 anyways

a 45G tank will weigh close to 450Lbs. With out pictures we really cant help you. The other thing you can do if the stand dosnt have a tank on top of it is get some friedns ans stand/sit on the stand to see if will help close to 500Lbs. I got about 5 freinds and stood on my stand for my 75G tank just to make sure.

From what I've heard before, it is better that a tank goes on a stand that is ment to support the weight that the certain number of gallons will put on it or the stand's middle may begin to warp a little and not support the tank very well and thus creating leaks in the tank. I don't know if this is true, but if it is I though I should pass it on to you. To be safe I wouldn't do over what the stand is supposed to be able to hold.

For any stand, I would do what MAHA did and test it with weight over a period of time. An even better idea might be to set up the stand outside with the tank you plan to put on it or comparable weight and then observe to see if it will hold. Either way, do not put a tank that has different dimensions on a stand that isn't designed to support those dimensions.

Whatever you do, don't put a tank on a stand where the edges of the tank hang over the side of the stand. The entire bottom of the tank must be supported, or the tank will break.

If the dimensions of the wood are approx. 2cm by 4cm, it's not a two-by-four, it's a one-by-two. :)

I would do a bit of re-inforcing...put a thick piece of plywood on top of the stand you can stain it to match the stand and then brace under that with some 2*4s. Make sure every screw and whatever holding the stand together is also in good condition and the stand itself is sturdy and you should be fine. The plywood will help break up the weight of the tank on the stand so pressure will be deviding among the entire surface instead of just the edges as most stands do. I have my 100G tank sitting on my dresser...I put a piece of 1/2" plywood on top of the dresser to help reinforce it a bit and its been well established there for several years :)
