Okay I have just started to cycle my new 45g pentagon tank 4 days ago. I am doing a live cycle, with 3 feeder goldfish that I keep in my qurintine to be tank. They also cycled that tank(10g). They are know a good 2 or 3 times bigger(about 3in long) then when I good them and very healthy. So I test for ammonia every day and still there is non. Whats going on? I thought is would show up by now, or does it take longer in a bigger tank?

So it's gonna take another week or so just to get the levels up?? Wow, well can't I add more fish? If I do that won't the levels climb faster, and then when there up I can take a few out so that the ammonia doesn't catch up on them?(with water changes).

Adding more fish could cause the levels to not only climb faster, but peak faster and at a much higher level of ammonia....thus raising the possibility of fish death.

Then of course, you could have had the perfect amount of ammonia in about an hour had you used pure ammonia to fishless cycle :D

The only reason why I didn't fishless cycle is because the rest of my family doesn't understand it and the pester my to death if I have a fish tank with no fish in it!! So I go with the live cycle. But I am very careful, My past 3 fish tank cycles I didn't loose one fish! Not one! So I do care a lot about my fish, even oif they are feeders.
