40 gallon tank suggestions?

I got a 40B gallon tank. The Breeder tank is wider and lower then a normal tank (but is still 40 gallons). I plan on running a fluval 304 and a small emperor (for bio filtration). I want live plants and some fish, any good recommendations on lighting, cool plants, and some fish? I wanted to go more aggressive since I already have 2 community tanks, was thinking maybe some dwarf chichlids, or perhaps I should get alot of bottom feeders, since I have such a large surface area on the bottom :\

The amount and type of lighting would depend on what plants did you want to keep. Since the tank is 36" long, 96w power compacts would be ideal if you wanted to go with high lighting. Since the tank is not super tall (17") you might be able to get away with some NO flourescents for low and some medium light plants.
