I'm planning on setting one up sometime soon. I want to have breeding so what would be a good stock for a cichlid tank that you want to breed cichlids in. I was thinking Convicts, but i want to check out other ideas

If you choose convicts..Let me tell you...Everybody has already told me that you "add fish and water", this indicates that it's REALLY easy to breed convicts. That is what I'm planning on doing. Good luck!

if you8 want to breed for the sake of breeding, then convicts are perfect, but if you are trying to do it for some money (by selling the fry) convicts are lousy.

You can try some south american cichlids, like the apistogramma family, they are beautiful, gorgeous, reasonably rare(well, where i am from they are), and command a pretty good price. But they prefer soft acidic water, ,which you may not have.

You could also set up a huge community fo shell dwellers like "multis" that will probably breed.

Well i wanted to breed just to have fun but i am awair that no store will want to buy convicts because they are so cheap. What about firemouths, i want to be able to keep babies with the parents. I read that they form families

edit: Multis, what are they. I looked it up and got nothing.

If u wanna c a typical Cichlid Parental Care, then convicts are the best coz they do all sorts of parental stuffs like fry retrival, territory guard, fry guide and more.
But convicts breed like crazy. My pair bred almost every month or less. So when the first brood grows and the pair lays another set of eggs, the first batch will be considered as intruders. U can easily keep convict pairs but not convict families.
An alternate can be Angels or Apistos.
