Ok i noticed today that my tank has a chip in the bottom left corner where it is sealed together and the black trim is. I can feel the crack on the bottom of chip but on top i cannot, it is not good to have chips in tanks especially since i just got this one up and filled and cycled, so what are my options to get fixed or changed. Is there anything or a sealant type i can put on crack to prevent any spreading? I have marked the crack to see if it is spreading or staying the same. i just hate the thought that i got everything up and old system torn down and now have to worry about returning the tank or something for a 1/4 inch chip in the corner. The tanks isn't leaking but i would like to seal it to make myself feel better as the inside of the glass is good the chip is on the front pane of glass of tank and should be repairable i think but don't know as i haven't dealt with glasswork.

I don't know alot about glass, but I don't think you have a whole lot of options as for repairing. If it were just some silicone then that would be different. I've seen some pretty large tanks that have had seemingly huge chips in the corners that have held water just fine. Keep an eye on it and see how it goes, hopefully it won't spread. However if this is a new tank that you've bought, I would try to see about getting a replacement for peace of mind.

thanks for the input i will ask store about it when i go in this week to check on my fire eel i ordered. See if they will replace it so i can have peace of mind, problem being i will need second stand or something to support the tank so i can transfer them wohoo i love shifting tanks it is becoming routine...lol.

Oh what a pain! Yeah, if it was a new tank and you can get a replacement it would definitely be worth switching. I have a chip on my 55 on one of the corners but no cracks associated with it and it seems sound (plus it was a free/used tank lol not new). You won't have to re-cycle the new tank though...just keep your filter wet and maybe moving in a bucket or something so it'll be just as good as soon as you put it on the new tank.

If they wont replace the tank then I think you've done the best you can, mark the crack to make sure its not expanding, leave a paper towel right there or something to make SURE its not leaking, and maybe put some silicon over it. Best of luck!

I had a tiny chip on a small 7 gallon tank I have here. I just pulled the chip out and filled the space with silicon. I don't know whether you should do that on your tank though.

I know over here you can get stone chipped windscreens repaired by some special process that injects something into the chip. Almost undetectable afterward. I have no idea of price on that unfortunately or whether it would react with silicon.
