hello everyone,

i bought the tank and stand at a tag sale for 30 bucks, it holds water just fine and everything seems to be going ok. the thing is the light dosent work i have no clue if it can be fixed. i guess what i would like to know is where can a find a new one. i tried all the normal things you might try to get it working. any help would be great and im sure that one of the experts will lead me in the right directions.

thanks,
Eric.

I'd focus on fixing the light first. I'm assuming it's a fluorescent fixture... Check the starter, maybe try a new switch and then ballast last. If it's cooked and/or you don't feel like fixing it, my suggestion is to go get two light sockets from Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc and do a compact fluorescent conversion. It's easy and doesn't take very long. IDunnoWhy has some shots of this here in his 20/29G Salt Journal. You can get an inexpensive cord end and some lamp cord to wire it, or even just take an old 2-prong extension cord and cut it to get a wire with a plug on it. Here's a primer on wiring lamp sockets and cord ends if you need it.

Is the light fixture integrated right into the hood? or is it removable?

Either way it's probably repairable, as HSFT said, I'd start with the starter (The cheapest part :p ) if that's ok, then it's likely the switch.

If it is the switch you could bypass it (making it on all the time) then just control it with a timer.
