a cool new hood?

i just seen these new hood designed to allow you to grow terestrial plants on top of your aquarium.

i think that there could be quite a few ideas for a hood of this nature,especialy for the terrarium folks and those interested in using terestrial plants for nitrate reduction.

i don't think any of the plants actually touch the water...it's just a plant holder for on top of your aquarium.

if you want a cheaper solution, just go to the hardware store, pick up some 2x4's and make one into whatever design you like.

Seems like a good idea, until you think about it. I wish there was more information on the site about what lighting was in the hood. I can see practical problems in taking it off for tank maintenance. Most plants would probably not like the extra heat from the lights underneath, and it would need lots of watering. Soil and plants get pretty heavy, so it would be a pain to take off, too. I couldn't see any flap for feeding, so I guess that's over the back behind the plants. It would look nice to have plants over the tank, though. If I see it in a store, I'll check it out -- I am always looking for places to put houseplants.

i didn't realy see it as a way of adding houseplants,i was thinking more of the diy possiblitys after you have it.no i don't think it has any water flowing through the top,but that could be remedied with a drill .just like i thought it would be a cool place to put vine like plants that you could grow at the back of the aquarium,using the plants as a background etc..

that will show you the feeding hole and the lighting options.this could be used as one big trickle filter as well.i think i may have to order one just to see what it's like?

hmm...i see what your saying and i take back everything i said. lol that would be one of the coolest backrounds i have ever seen! please post pics if you (or anybody else for that matter) end up doing this

oh you have no clue the more i check this hood out the more i like it.i think i know what i'm begging for christmas.plus your right to be skeptical supahtim,with all the new prouducts put out each year only so many can be winners.

..but the vine background idea is indeed really neat!
