At least it died before the new year. Kind of bums me out, I just did a water change about 5 days ago. Water test comes out ok, other fish appear to be ok. I don't think the death was because of stress or anything like that. The fish that actually died (phantom black tetra) has been acting weird the past couple of weeks and was actually kind of fat, almost pregnant looking. Not sure cause of death. Just kind of bummed.

Always sad- sorry to hear of your loss.....
Sounds like it may have been one of a few things- my gutt tells me it was likely to have been an internal bacterial infection- unlikely there would have been anything you could do to help the fish.
If it had 'pine-coned' then it could more specifically have been dropsy- but I find that very upsetting when a fish has it,and the chances are that you would have put the fish down first.
Watch the tank CLOSELY over the next couple of weeksto look for any similair signs- if they are get on the pages here and call for help........
