A moment of silence, please

For unknown reasons, sometime Saturday night, my newest pet decided to bail out of his aquarium. Too bad for him, cuz he died on the carpet, covered in lint. I didn't even have a chance to name him. He landed in front of one of my other aquariums, and his death so moved the tetras in there that one decided to hurl himself down there in sympathy. wtf?
:(

My sympathies.   :'(

I just got my first betta and he kinda looks like yours did (in color pattern, mine has a patriotic red white and blue anal fin).

Bettas are known to be jumpers, what kind of lid/hood was on his tank?

This message is being transmitted telepathically, so as not to break the silence...

Back - I am sorry you lost your guy.  Really.  Hey - at least you got a great pic... his colors are out of this world!  Go get another one.

"Mr. Flash" jumped out of his tank - landed on the kitchen counter, I found him flopping all around.  I have no idea how long he was out.  Got him back in the tank, he kind of sunk and layed on the bottom for about an hour - but he came back.  That was months ago - Mr. Flash is fine, and now has a top on his tank.

I thought it was the female Bettas that jumped, but I guess this wonderful habit has no gender preference...

See, it's werid - the things you miss. I never knew bettas were known to be jumpers. I've always had bettas, it seems like at any given time, ONE of my aquariums has a betta in it.

Mr. Unnamed Betta was in a 2.5 gallon aquarium with an open top. I've even kept bettas in open top aquariums before with no problems. wtf. It has to be an open top aquarium as well - pendant light suspended above it.
