I went to the LFS today to pic up a few thing, salt, fish food and some cyclop-eeze ( which I forgot) and a bottle of Aiptasia X. The LFS man asked me if I was having a problem with Aiptasia and I told him not a problem but I had about 10 in the tank last nite that I treated with the A. X. He took me around the corner and showed me this fish (not a big fish) and told me that I needed to get one of these and that it would eat Aiptasia as fast as they would grow. Well, I figured I would check with ya'll before I buy a fish that I might not want to get. I wanted to make sure that there isn't a down side to this fish, will he eat my polyps or does it have any bad habits, do I really need the fish. Also, as always, I forgot the name of the fish, lol.

I think it was, but I could be wrong. I have to back later this week to pick up the cyclop-eeze and I will ask what it was again, he had two in the store. He has already sold me one fish that he said would survive in my tank and it didn't last two months, so he has me gun shy on taking his word on such things.

Copperbands are difficult to get eating prepared foods but if you luck out and get one that eats readily then they are a nice fish. Due to their low survivability I would tend to steer clear. If you want you should try getting a bunch of peppermint shrimp they are hit and miss but some will gladly eat aiptasia and since adding 3 or 4 to my tank I haven't seen any aiptasia and I had a few that I was having trouble getting rid of.

I strongly recommend Berghia Nudibranchs, stay away from the Aiptasia X, it seems to activate furter growth rather then kill those little buggers.

Bala Shark, now that you have said that, lol. I kill all the ones I find every week when I do my water changes and it seems like the more I kill the more that pop up, so you may be right on your point. I have a greese pencil and when I find one in my tank I mark the tank so when I do the water changes I don't miss any, my point is, I keep up with this every week and they seem to be getting worse instead of just a few here and there. Also I called the man at the fish store today, and he said the fish is called by several names but he calles them a Klein Butterfly fish. He also said that when you use the A. X on them that as you are doing that, the Aiptasia release their eggs or spores into the tank and you are fighting a lossing battle. He said that they take care of a 600g tank that had a bad problem with them and after they put the Klein Butterfly fish in the tank the problem went away. So, what advice do Ya'll have for me now, get the fish, use or don't use the A. X, use something else, or sell the tank, lol. Just kidding on the last one.

definitly dont get the fish lol! just keep up with trying to kill them IME it usually takes a few trys... i use ms wages and make a paste but you can use any type of kalk to make the paste, i usually try n remove the rock cause its easier to treat out of the water (IMO) after you think u got it dump it in a seperate container of saltwater and put back in the tank... some time it take 2-3 trys but in the end it always works ;)

Guess that about covers wither or not to buy the fish, lol. What are Berghia Nudibranchs and where do you get them? Tre, what is ms wages? I don't think treating the LR out of the tank is possible, I just have to much rock in the tank and would pretty much have to destroy the tank each week to get them under control. My wife would freak if I started doing that.

Nudibranchs are sea slugs and berghia's are a type that unfortunately are obligate feeders, once the aiptasia is under control you will need to find a new home for your nudi or it will starve to death. Mrs. Wage's is pickling lime or kalkwasser, and can be purchased at most grocery stores. This is a good method and just like Joe's Juice (which I have used with great success) it is quick and easy, just squirt the paste into the mouth and it will shrivel up. Peppermint shrimp are the next best method....easy, cheap and decorative to boot.....

I think I will try the Perpermint Shrimp and see how that works, make take me a bit to get my hands on a couple. When I put the A X. on the ones I had in my polys, It didn't seem to bother the polyps at all, but I was as careful as I could be. On a differant note, when my wife found out how to take better pics the other day with our camera, she couldn't belive how pretty the Zoas and polys were that I have in the tank. The better pics allowed her ( and me, lol) to see more of the details of the polys that we couldn't see with our eyes alone.
