has anyone thought about doing one of these?

I was thinking of putting together a small (14" cube) tank with a pair of highly colored dwarf cichlids. I would choose ones that live in basic water so that I could use dead coral for decor and crushed coral for gravel. top if off with a some 10K bulbs and it would seem to be a psuedo SW Nano Tank.

Any one have any opinions/experience with this? Any suggestions on cichlids?

no, I've seen some that are done really nicely. They just used fake corals (the cooool looking plastic ones), white sand on the bottom, stuff like that. It was cool. If you could find a fish that did withstand crushed coral or shells, that would be good, although I don't know which would be good! Sorry. Tropheus Duboisis are way cool looking...but they are 40$ here.

sounds like an excellent idea to me...

whats a 14"x14" tank? 10g?

i think a pair of cockatoo dwarf cichlid or something else colorful would be cool in that... i back what someone above mentioned about the blue/orange dwarf gourami though too. very colorful fish that could be paired together...

the cichlids do remind me more of a saltwater fish though i suppose...

let us know how it goes...
