A Rock I Want In My Tank

Can I take a rock from outside in the woods or something and put it in my tank? If I can, do I need to let it soak in part bleach part water over night? What should I do??

Do you know what kind of rock it is? Bleach would only kill bacteria and parasites, but rock could alter your water conditions such as PH. Unless your sure of what kind of rock it is, it could cause harm. Boiling is another sterilization method also. ???

ive used a lot of outdoor rock in the past, just put it in a pot and boil the crap out of it, like a good twenty mins..

I'd reccomend you test it with vinegar. If it fizzes, it's going to raise your pH (this would be ok for an African Cichlid tank, but otherwise, not a good idea). If it doesn't fizz, you're probably ok. Bleach or boiling would sterilize it just fine.
