I purchased a red-tailed shark on sunday to add to my 25 gallon tank. There's plenty of space to hide in there, and some plants. He's even staked out a territory... but the fish won't eat! There are barbs in my tank, and they're pretty vicious at eating time, but my red-tail doesn't even make an attempt (he's about 4" long). Is he blind? The water conditions are perfect as they can get, except some debris floating about from re-planting plants. I've even tried sticking those sinking pellets in his home, but he doesn't eat. Anything i can possibly do?

mine was a picky bugger. I would see him scim the plants more than come to eat with the others.

He did nibble on algae wafers, sinking food, and he liked zucchini. He also liked blood worms.

I have ruby barbs, which he thought he was, he would kick their butts all around the tank. He also didn't get along with my banded loach, but loach usually won.

Does he skim your plants at all?

I lost him when we had a power outage.

I haven't seen him skim the plants yet, but I do notice him swimming around the bottom and all around the glass and the bogwood root imitation. I believe he's eating the algae and whatever few morsels of food hit the bottom.

Lol! I wish he would think of himself as one of my black rubies... then at least he would eat. :)
