I was so relieved yesterday b/c my ammonia was finally dropping and I started getting some nitrates....I thought I saw the end of my cycle in sight, and all my fish have survived!

And THEN, I noticed that one of my tetras had a couple small, white 'bubbles' on his tail. Oh, and the other tetra had a few along his back. And even my gourami has two at the back of his underside fin. I have ICK!

OK, I read the article in a previous thread. I'm cranking my heat up slowly...it's now btw. 84 and 86 degrees. How hot should I go?

I had already been using a low level of aquarium salt just to help with stress. (app. 1T/5 gal, perhaps a little less b/c I was estimating) So with that in mind, how much salt do you think I should add. I started adding 1T this morning, I was going to do it slowly 1/4 T at a time. How much do you think? Will 1T do it, considering that I already have some dissolved in the tank? Or should I try 2T?

Any help from those who have conquered with this method would be appreciated! I don't want to lose my fish! Thanks!

Yes, that's the one I already read.....but I still had a few questions about doing it in my tank. I was hoping to hear more specifics from the ones here who have tried the method in their tanks. How hot? How much more salt? I've already started the treatment, but I want to make sure it's effective!

Does Ick get worse before it gets better? This is day 3-4 of the treatment, and one of my cardinals has more spots than ever. One other one still has the same 2 on his tail that I initially noticed. The gourami lost his, and I've seen no new ones. The neon has none. I'm worried about the one cardinal....he's got lots of spots, and his fins are ragged. Also worried that the treatment isn't working. Should I up the salt? My nitrites are still high, but they are coming down slowly. With a water change today, I think they'll drop below .5 by tomorrow.

sometimes you'll get one fish that seems to take the brunt of the infestation and ultimatly dies...he was probably weakened to begin with. You may well lose him, but its good news that the other fish are loosing spots...be sure to treat at least a week after the spots are gone, for they can only be killed after they drop off the fish.
