I dont know if plecos are bottom feeders well anyways my question about them is i have a gold nugget pleco in a 80 gallon tank his about 1 1/2 inch well i dont know what to feed him becuase his always hiding i bought some food for him you know the sinking pellets but the other freaking fish start to munch on it. so how can i feed him with out the other fish munching on it?

I got another question how many more plecos can i put in my tank??? and what are some prettier plecos i think the goldnugget is cool but is there any better?

Yeah, my gold nugget vary rarely chases food before the other fish. What other fish are in there? I sometime put in largish pieces of shrimp that the other fish can't eat in one go, and at night I can find the nugget eating it. Dump a piece near his hiding place an see wht happens. If you don't have a really clean substrate don't worry too much unless he starts loking thin.
I think gold nuggets are very pretty, but there are hundreds of others depending on availability and the depth of your pocket. You can keep a few more in, depending on what other fish are in there. They appreciate clean water with good flow and oxygen content

how long have you had it? it might not be settled in yet, if you've had it quite a while then try making a little cave which only he/she can get into and drop the food in there ;) maybe your not dropping the food close enough to his teritory? Try moving some of the bigger fish out of the tank and see what happens then ;)
Maybe it doesn't like the food your giving it? Prehaps unclean substrate is the problem, too much ammonnia/nitrite/nitrate/ph/heavy metals etc? He may not have ENOUGH tankmates? Is the flow of your filter too strong? Is the tank disturbed alot? Has it got a background? Is the light too bright/ the wrong color? Is the temperature right? Is it right next to a computer, stereo or TV? Are the colors too bright? Has he got a disease?

I hope some of this helps ;) if you don't understand why i've put some of this stuff, don't be afraid to ask ;)

I find that my L066 (Go to planetcatfish.com to see him. It was the site that helped me figure out what type of pleco I have.) I nearly have to toss the food in his cave in order to make sure s/he eats. Also, if anything changes, s/he will stop eating for a day or two. S/he is a beautiful pelco, and starting to settle in nicely now. Also, try different sinking food. I mean, L066 loves sinking tablets and will pull them into the cave. HOWEVER s/he wants nothing to do with Algae tablets.

I have 6 common pelcos in my 75-gallon tank. I have a bit of challenge making sure everyone is eating, but as long as no one looks skinny, I am thinking they are fine. (The man moved in and his fishes came with him, and the fishes moved into my 75-gallon tank, which was under stocked anyway.)

Now what were his three LOVE algae tablets, to the point of everyone gets their own chip, but will not touch the sinking tablet that L066 loves. What were my three eat anything that sinks to the bottom on the tank and does not move. I make it a point to see that at least 8-10 algae chips are in this tank, as well as 3-6 sinking tablets when I feed them. (It also has Ottos and a catfish in it, so all that food does go!)

So try different things and see what you can learn from the web about your golden nugget. I mean, it was after I discovered L066 was not eating the algae tablets, did I learn they are more of meat-eaters! So of course he will not eat the Algae tablets, (and I make it a point to see that he has at least two to eat, so my platys don't look like a snack!)
