(Should say FilstAr:))

I have a 29g and was going to get an XP2. I figure that my fishload would prefer it over the XP1. now I am thinking of the XP3. I know this is really overkill, but is this beyond overkill?

Do the Filstars from Big Al's come with Media?

Suppose I get an XP2 (or an XP3)...how do you recommend I load it? I am trying to figure out how much media I need to buy.

Thanks!!!

Big als sells retail products. So the filters come with what ever the manufacture ships with the filter. In most cases yes.

Im not familiar with the filters your describing, But you cant over filter the water (yes there are acceptions to this) So the main thing here is flow rate. You dont want to create any rapids in your fish tank.

I dont see why you cannot use an Xp2 on a 29... an Xp3 might be overkill but you can always reconfigure the spraybar to reduce whirlpool effect or turn the flow down....

Yes they come with media. dont bother using the carbon/ammonia resin/white pouch thing.

You will be duely impressed with your filter...
I am.
