Adding ammonia to tank

For starting a cycle, does the ammonia need to be at .5 or 5.0 ppm?

It's 5.0 ppm, according to MissFishy's guide.

If I just calculated that correctly (and I'm pretty sure that I did), that's just 0.2 mL of ammonia for a 10 G tank!

Yes, 5.0 is a good starting point. This level is highly toxic to fish, but if there are no fish present, it's ok. Add it drop by drop, it takes very little pure ammonia to get the levels up there! The first time I did it I dumped a capful in and my levels were off the charts!
