Adding rocks

I just puchased two small pieces of "lace" rock (looks almost like lava rock) for my 10gal tank w/ 4 zebra danios and 2 cories.

Is there anything special I should do to the rock before adding it to my tank?  It had a substantial amount of lichen on it that I have mostly removed by washing.  Does anyone know if lace rock is safe for my water and/or fish?

Also, does anyone have any reccomendations for placing rocks/plants in a tank?  Along with the rock, I have 5 plastic plants.  My plan was to put the rock in the middle/center w/ the plants in a line so the fish have room to swim "laps" around the decorations.

I have a large piece of Lace rock covered with Java Fern as a centerpiece for my 45. You can see a picture of it here http://www.geocities.com/joshsfish/whole_tank.jpg (it's an older pic, the rock is now covered with the JF).

I didn't do anything special with the rock, just rinsed it and put it in.
