adding sand

I'm ordering some chaeto from a guy online who also supplies some sand. Is it safe to use that sand in the refugium?

it is probably fine but what type of sand is it? (assuming its live sand)

How large is the refugium, if it is a smaller hob one the sand would work and be fine or you could also look into miracle mud or something along those lines.

The refugium is my customer design, and I have to figure out the space inside yet. I bought a 5lbs of regular marine sand which I'm going to mix in a pound or two from my tank. I just wanted to know if I could take that sand the guy sends to me and add it as well.

Refugium:
L = 10 1/2"
W = 6 1/2"
H = 16"

I had no more acrylic to use.
