OMG. I just heard one of my ADFs singing!!! It's like a rhythmic buzzing: whrrrreee whrrrreee whrrrreee whrrreee?!??
I'm sooo relieved to have established that the weird noises I'd been hearing are A) not in my head; and B) not a kitchen appliance malfunctioning.
Just had to share with pretty much the only people who might find this as thrilling as me. At midnight.

That is pretty cool! I had my frog tank in my room, I was trying to get to sleep late at night, and my frog decided that that was the time to sing. It is pretty quiet, but when the tank is right next to you...

Oh wow. My girlfriend used to keep two adfs, and sometimes I heard a buzzing sound in the middle of the night and never figured out what it was. I always figured it was something our neighbors were doing. That's so cool in retrospect. I had no idea that adfs sang.

*runs out and buys several adfs, listens intently to the bag to hear them sing...*
That's so neat! I know the "I am not a loser" feeling. It happened when my bettas had their fry, I was like "NO. WAY. NO. FREAKING WAY. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. OHMYGOSH." and then I realized how loserish I was ;)

Well, I know for sure now that one is a male - I'd already noticed he had those nodules by his front armpits. Not sure about the other one - s/he's actually a bit smaller than the male, and I can't see the nodules. Might be a immature female? Who knows. I understand that males will sing whether there is a female around or not.

Teehee. I'm so happy that my critters are happy!!! Feeling like a WINNER. *twirlysmi*twirlysmi
