It doesn't matter much, as long as they're getting food in the 29g. They aren't that competetive of eaters, so they might do better getting enough to eat in the 10g.

I kept two in my 29 for a fairly long time, I fed them bloodworms when they were smaller, but when they were full grown, they started eating the flakes that my fish missed. As for swimming room, It should matter so much as what companions are in the tank with them.
