I can't believe this. I redid the whole tank and removed the fish and pulled the rocks, water, etc and put all new stuff in. And just cleaned the filters. Some of you saw my post on my tank. Now I have suddenly this morning at least 6 I can count that stood out, but there are more. They are currently hiding in the rocks and wood. Man I am getting more fish without buying them!! THis is great! :)

Wish I knew which cichlid was the female of the bunch. It's either the lighter orange or the 2 darker ones. Not sure!

I will try to get some pictures tonight of the babies if I can.

One question, how can you tell which are females and males? I have one large fish that is like a more pale yellow color and the rest are a darker orange color. I am guessing the yellow one is the female?

Are you talking about the yellow one above that piece of driftwood? If so that looks like a Yellow Lab to me and not a Red/Orange Zebra (Maylandia estherae). Your Orange fish in that tank are Red/Orange Zebra (Maylandia estherae). There is a possiblity of a "mixed" pair....might be 2 species breeding together, which is common in Mbuna. Congrats none the less.

Both males and females can have the egg spots so i would not go on that alone. Males will usually grow larger than the females (not by much) and might "fade" in color instead of keeping the bright orange.

for lack of knowing a better term, Butt Fins.
Anal fin. ;)
