Agressive Cichlids

My adult female african cichlid attacked her male tank mate. When I found him, he was floating upside-down with his fins nipped. He survived the night and is still breathing. He seems to be doing better, but he's still upside-down. What should I do to help him? Thanks for the help.

What kind of African cichlids? They usually don't harass to death unless the victim is already weakend or stressed.

That guy is probably going to die but his best chance of survival is to separate them into two different tanks. What size tank is it? Usually with Africans the more the better. Less chance of harassment.
