I got a new 58 gallon tank and looking to make it a cichlid tank. Its not a normal 58 gallon, its shorter and taller measurements are 30" long 25" tall and 18" deep. I have another 60 gallon that's long and have a large pleco and a red tail barracuda in it and run just a filter and a airstone. since the new one is taller I was wondering if I should run a underwater powerhead or an airstone or both? any input helps.

If it were my tank, I'd do a powerhead. Just because the look of a mass of bubbles constantly rising through the tank is not as appealing to me. But I have used airstones on tall tanks before as well and they certainly do the job. Keep in mind it has to be a more powerful pump for deeper water like that (as it is pushing against stronger water pressure).
