Okay, I have a strange question this time. Now I've read that in healthy tanks there will always be some amount of algae. My tank has been running for a couple of weeks now (well more, but the fish have been in there for two weeks now) and I have yet to see any algae. The water I get is treated with chloramine, but I put in the correct type and amount of water treatment chemicals to get rid of that. Is there something else I'm forgetting or should I just be patient. So far the fish and the plants seem to be doing just fine.

Boy, you sure are lucky! When I setup my tank the algae started when the cloudy bloom clears up (about 2 weeks after setup).

After about 2 months, then the algae started to fade and eventually i now have crystal clear water.

In your cycle, you should either see some algae now or your tank may already reach that perfect balance in your cycle.

Also, another cause of algae is excessive lights. If your water test are OK, have no excessive lights, and water is clear then I think you are all set.

Well, I think algae is funny sometimes. I know that there are certain things that cause it to grow excessively and things like that. But I have witnessed strange algae growth in some my tanks. For example my old 29g, never got a good amount of algea. There would be no algae on the front and sides, only on the back would any algae grow, and little at that. Now in my 15g, I could not keep the algae away for more then a couple of days. Both of these tanks did not have excessive light or anything, the only difference between them is that the 29 was an old tank setup, more established and the 15g was rather new.
It sounds to me like it just all depends on the piticular tank and it's chemistry. Rather it is new or old.
