algae problem

im having an algae problem in my 55g cichlid tank. if i use a padded brush it doesnt get it off the walls of the tank but when i tried using my fingernail it worked. . anyone have a suggestion on what i can buy to clean this stuff off? the pleco in the tank eats all the algae on the rocks and ornaments but has been avoiding the walls. tia

One cleaner I had was a long wood stick with a scrubbing pad on one end and a flat, hard plastic scraper on the other end. If you "squeegie" the walls with it, it should help. If not, maybe you could just take a look and try other things. By the way, I got it at Petco for pretty cheap, I believe.

thats because most plecs dont eat exclusively algae. some dont eat it at all. what kind do you have?

maybe pushing a little harder on the glass but not too hard will work. scrub over the same area a lot and you will notice the difference. or try a magnetic scraper.

I believe its a sailfin pleco

ahh. if you want you could probably trade it in for a suitable algae eating plec.
