algae problem

I have a 20 gallon sw tank,have alot of algae on the back of the glass,i had a turbo snail,but he died yesterday,i was wondering would it be best to scrape the algae of the glass or go and buy more snails,and what causes snails to die,i done a 20 percent water change 2 days ago,would that caused the snail to die.

What kind of algae. And it kinda concerns me the snail just up and died (unless old age?), usually snails and crabs are pretty hardy. Everything else living? Did any of your params or normal routines change during that W/C?

its green algae not hair algae,no i check all the nitrate,nitrite,and ph everything was good,and the salinity was too,my crabs and clownfish are doing fine

u want a good amount of snails not just one.... snails are pretty sensative to salinity change possibly that could have been yur problem

Probably by ensuring that the parameters (salinity, temperature, pH, salinity, etc) of the replacement water match the parameters of the tank water.

1. Get a bucket that will hold 20% of your tank
2. Fill it with RO/DI water
3. Mix salt to match specific gravity of your tank
4. Put a power head in the bucket with a heater.
5. Let it get to the same temp as your tank and let the powerhead run for 24 hours. This will let the dissolved oxygen to reach proper level and everything else should stabilize.
6. Siphon water from main tank or sump and then replace it. Make sure to turn off any equipment that must be submerged.
