Update...I got home and filter was still working properly (thank God). Scraped all the algae off the sides of my tank and did a water change (but water is still a little cloudy). All fish seem to be acting okay other than one of the angel's is hiding way up inside rock. My question is: what are the chances of the algae coming back like that again? When I purchased the algae scraper it had a bottle of Algae Destroyer Liquid included. Should I go ahead and put some in the water or just wait? I just don't want that film to cover my tank like that again. It took me over an hour to clean!

the algae destroyer worked for me! I used to have bad bad algae problems, even though the tank was in front of a heavily curtained window. In the end I just moved the tank, added a few drops, no algae since! =D But it only prevents algae, so its useless if you put it in when there is already algae.

My tank is not near a window. I have windows all across back side of my den and my tank is across the room on opposite wall. On the other side of windows we have a screened in porch. Barely any sun shines in on that wall. Maybe for about 5 minutes late in the afternoon but I live in South Alabama and lately we have had nothing but cloudy days and rain. This algae problem just started forming in my tank on Monday and before I knew it, it had completely covered the inside walls and live plants.

Algae on my plants was fuzzy black. The film that appeared on the sides of the tank was clear and made the glass so blurry that it was hard to see inside. It looked as if the fish had been rubbing up against the glass or something. When I tried to rub it off I couldn't get it to come off. I had to use a razor to shave it off and it looked like white clumps. Someone at the lps talked me into getting one of those treasure chest 7 day feeders last week. After being in the tank for one day, it made the water so cloudy that I removed it. When I picked it up, chunks of white goop was everywhere. I immediately did a water change to get it all out. Could this have had something to do with it. And something caused my filter to stop working (got clogged I guess). Thankfully, after taking it apart and cleaning, it started working again. :)
