algae type growth in tank

Hello all, my tank is about 1 1/2 years in cycle. I have two clown fish and a diamond goby in a 30 gallon. I have a fruval filter setup with a uv sterilizer and a protein skimmer. My tank has been very healthy, but just recently this red/brown stuff has started to carpet the gravel and is on the rocks too.

I tried some algae control additive, but it didn't help. My glass stays crystal clear except where the you see it creeping up, so im not sure if this is algae. Any ideas would be appreciated.

what are your PO4 readings, how much flow is in the tank how often/much do you feed, how often do you carry out waterchanges

aslo you tank seems to be a bit hot in the pic

its Cyanobacteria Algae, or just red slim algae.

Cyano, Cyanos, Cyanobacteria, Blue-Green Algae, Algae, Red slime Algae, Slime Algae, Slime, Undesirable algae this is a good site to check out for prevention (and in this case removal/methods of removal) It also goes into where it came from.

I had a bad case a while back but was able to get it out by hand andt then a phosphate remover in a filter.

Thanks for that article, it was very helpful. Im now testing my water's PO4 level, and im going to head to the lfs for some phosphate remover.

question: I have a 'complete' test kit which includes testing for: pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate. Do i need to purchase a phosphate test kit?
