Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have recently switched from a fish only saltwater tank to a reef tank. I have a quick question if anyone can help me. I am not sure of the proper name but, the purple algae on my live rock is starting to kind of crust/flake and is alittle dull looking. Is this normal? I liked my algae when it was bright purple. I have checked my calcium level and it is at 400. My ALK is at 3.09 and my DKH is at about 9.0. It seems when I was first starting and my calcium level was at 350 and my ALK was at 12.00 my purple algae was a lot brighter. PH, ammonia, nitrite, phosphate, and nitrate are all perfect levels. My temp is 79 to 80 degrees. My tank inhabatints are 1 brain coral, a georgous purple clam (its color is outstanding), pink tip bubble anemone, cleaner shrimp, turbo snails and 2 red leg algea crabs. I had a recent battle with ick so I took out my powder blue tang and flame angel to quarintine them and let the ick die off in the main tank to kill it off with no hosts too attack. My tank is also 40 gallons. Well thanks to all of you for reading this. Take care
