I have noticed that my glass seems hazy. Could this be algea? What would be the best cleaner (the haze is on the inside)? I like to keep the light on in the tank and have been told that this can lead to algea. I know I have to check water chemistries....my bad. I have also heard of algea tablets that get rid of algea. What would be the best thing to use? Thanks,
Michelle

probably algae. best way i've heard to control it is by having something in the tank that likes to eat it...making sure the light level isn't too high because yes, you're right, it encourages growth...and if necessary a scraper of some kind. I never had much luck with the magnetic kind...elbow grease seems to work better...

Well, I ended up going to my lfs and getting a magnetic scraper. I asked about getting a CAE, but because of the brutes (african cichlids) I have in my tank, I can't put anything in there. The gang would either eat him or kill him. I also got AlgeaFix. I will see how that works. Thanks for the help.

I have a magnetic cleaner but I can't say I'm impressed. I also have a couple of glass cleaning pads (the green plastic wiry ones) which work best...you need some elbow grease, and a pad on a stick which is pretty good for hard to reach places. I ALSO have a stick with a razor blade on the end which is good for getting off the green spot algae on the back glass.
I wouldn't recommend routinely using algaecides.
