I was thinking about letting some algea grow in my tank. Is there any bad effects from algea towards fish?

well... you see algae in lakes, streams, rivers, ponds, etc. with happy living fish all the time, don't you?

algae is usually more of a problem for planted tanks, as it steals nutrients away from the plants. otherwise, i think the hatred for it is purely aesthetic.

Yeah, isn't it funny how people are trying to replicate nature as much as possible and then freak out when some algae grows on the filter intake.

I try to cultivate algae in my tank... as long as it isn't on the plants or front glass, I think it adds a very nice, natural look to the tank.

I'm having a bit of trouble keeping some off my plants, any ways to get it off? outside of scrubbing or waiting for thwe cleanup crew? I had a beak-out of hair algae a lil bit ago, got rid of it through water changes, but there's still some hairs left on some of my plants.

hair algae usualy has to do with nurtient problems, what are you useing as fetalizer? are you useing co2?
