Well, it's finally happened, after a little over 3 years. My cichlids have gone wild and just want to beat the crap out of each other. It all started with my GT wanting to beat up my Midas, and my Midas inflicting some damage on the GT--which is becoming more and more severe every day. Strangely enough, my Midas is not being aggressive, but he is holding his ground, with ease I must say. As calm and regal my GT has been after all these years, he's literally flipped his lid. He's out for blood, but a bit late I suspect, as my Midas has easily outgrown him.

Now my severums, which serve as dithers, want to beat the crap out of each other too! They were the fish intended to take the damage, and until this day, never have. The only fish that aren't fighting (yet) are my loaches and pleco. It's literally a warzone in my tank now! It's not like any or all of them just hit puberty...they are all sexually mature.

I guess I'll break out the buckets and head up to the LFS tomorrow. *sigh*

Must be something with the stars and planetary alignment...

Since the LFS is expanding, I wonder if I could get my GT into a display tank? Adult GT's are rare...I've yet to actually see one, and I've been to a lot of LFS's! I'd hate to have him pawned off to someone who doesn't know what a cycle is.

I know how you feel. In my 125 I have a pair of rainbow cichlids. Well they decided to start spawning last weekend.

The male is beating the crap out of any fish that comes on that half of the tank. Imagine if you will 14 red hero efecsiatus (sp) all huddled on one side of a 6 ft tank. The heros are more than 2 times the size of the rainbow. If he keeps this up he may have to be put in a new home.

wow man sorry to hear that. Haven't you been giving them their crazy pills?

That would be nice if the LFS was able to take the GT from you and keep it like that. It's always good when you know they have a good home to go too.

I've seen two full grown GTs in a buddy's 160. They're amazing. He has em all crammed in with a bunch of Africans and New Worlds. It's so full, no one can establish a territory.
He also has a full sized Red Devil in a 25 gallon tank that will take chunks out of your hand. He's a beauty in his own hideous sort of way.
