I lost My Green Spotted Puffer, My Peacock Eel and a Bumble Goby because I haven't had power for three days and my house is 35 degrees. Any suggestions for future reference when this happens? Is there battery opperated heaters and filters? I hated to se the little guys suffer but I couldn't relocate them.

I have A handful of battery operated glove warmers that I tape to the glass of my tank. I use one on each end of my bigger tanks. the battery lasts for roughly 6 to 7 hours. and they keep my tanks at around 74 to 72 degrees. They also make battery operated air pumps that will run about 12 hours on one battery.

With enuff car batteries and a good inverter you could last several days running your aquarium during a power failure. Can be costly depending on your power needs. then you could also (if power failure aren't rare) get your hand on some solar panels to recharge those batteries...

1 more option

Being the computer guy I came up with this idea. Get what is called a UPS, Uniterruptable Power Supply. It contains a battery inside and if you get a good enough unit you could power your heater and airstone for a day or two maybe more depending on which one you buy and how many watts your heater is. Prices range from 100 and up. But also like one guy said on a previous post wrap the tank with blankets. That way the heater wont' have to work as hard and will take less power. I thought of this after our first ice storm in december.
